Veterinarian
Dr. Amira Abdel-Malek is a general practitioner and the owner of Sugar Land Veterinary Clinic.
Dr. Abdel-Malek (Dr. A for abbreviation) is a native Houstonian who was raised on the South West side of Houston. Dr. A has always had a love and compassion for animals and was known around the neighborhood for having a “zoo” consisting of dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, rats, and birds. Wanting to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian, Dr. A received her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science in 2005 from Texas A&M University in College Station. She then went on to receive a Masters in Public Health in the fields of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Texas A&M University School of Rural Public Health in 2007. Wishing to travel and gain more cultural experiences along with her veterinary education, she decided to move to the United Kingdom and earned her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (a DVM equivalent degree) at the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)-accredited University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine, in 2012.
After graduating, Dr. A came back home to Houston to practice veterinary medicine in a fast-paced GP clinic for 4 years. She then spent about a year as a solo practitioner. Deciding to branch out on her own, Dr. A then decided to work for herself as a Relief veterinarian in the Houston and Greater Houston surrounding areas for another 4-5 years. Wanting to put down roots and fulfill the final aspect of her childhood dream, Dr. A decided to open up her own veterinary clinic.
Dr. A truly enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine and is particularly interested in preventative medicine, pain management, geriatric care, and dentistry. In her spare time, Dr. Abdel-Malek enjoys reading, watching movies, and spending time with her rambunctious Red Golden Retriever Kenobi, as well as family and friends.
Practice Manager/Lead Technician
Bria obtained her A.A.S. from the Veterinary Technician Institute in 2014 and has been working in the industry as a veterinary technician since then. She has specialized training in the handling of anxious animals and her passion is to give pets a “voice” by advocating for compassionate care. Bria’s favorite part of veterinary medicine is educating pet owners and seeing pets get well when they get the help that they need. In her spare time, Bria cares for two spoiled Pitbulls, Miss Piggy, and Ronin, as well as two sweet cats, Alucard and Sypha. She also enjoys reading, Anime, and playing her Nintendo Switch.
Lead Client Services/Receptionist
Yolanda’s considerable knowledge about animal care has been learned on the job, as she previously worked at an Emergency Specialty hospital for 8 years. Because of her time there, she is well adept at making you feel at home, even in highly stressful situations. Her favorite part of the job is getting to know our clients and patients on an intimate, family-level. When she is not working, Yolanda can be found spending her time with her family and friends.
